I have been doing Aikido from 1988. For twenty years I studied, practiced and taught in Japan with the top Masters, and now I have my own full-time dojo in Dromore, County Down, Northern Ireland. In that time I have taught more people than I can count from all over the world. I love what I do, and feel so grateful to be able to teach this wonderful Japanese martial art and lifestyle. Everyday is a new challenge, adventure and learning experience.
We all hit the wall sooner or later. The doubts, the fears, the “what if’s ...” The best way to deal with “the demons” as I like to call them is to talk to me or your Instructor and let us know what is going on. These feeling will come and go. We just have to keep showing up at class. The more you give into those feeling the stronger they become and eventually they will weaken, and destroy your life.
I see people signing up for classes, they come once or twice and we never see them again. Why? Because they came out of their comfort zone, felt insecure, and went back to being as they were before. To grow, to expand to become a world level person, requires guidance, effort, and patience.
We all have tapes playing in our heads telling us “You’re incompetent! You’re stupid! You’re weak! You’re never going to amount to anything!. This is the ego trying to keep us down and it does not help us get anywhere. Aikido teaches how to turn these tapes off. You learn to accept yourself. To realize you are the perfect you.
What we do is simple but not easy!
Aikido teaches us to take control of our lives. To eliminate our bad habits. To do away with all the drama, the over acting and attention seeking games people play. When we let all that stuff go we move into a genuine, natural, and authentic state. Our health, our relationships and life overall improves. We learn to handle stress, tap into our creativity, meet challenges, accept people and situations with more calmness, and to understand ourselves better.
The dojo is a safe, disciplined and controlled environment to learn in. In recent years many major corporations and learning institutions have started recognizing the powerful, positive effect Aikido has to offer. Many use our methods to handle conflict resolution, reduce stress, and build strong harmonious teams in their work environments.
We are not fighting in Aikido! We are learning, practicing and applying sophisticated techniques that can and will enrich a person’s whole being. We work both hemispheres of the brain, incorporating the intuition & feelings of the right brain with the analytical abilities of the left. Your body, your mind and your character will change, you will become stronger, flexible and resilient. Increased cardiovascular fitness, respiration and overall muscle tone will allow a natural flow of energy. Aikido training develops a strong, supple body, but it also develops a strong and supple character, that can stand with great dignity yet adjust to all of life’s challenges. You learn to keep balanced when others are flipping out. A balance that is maintained physically, mentally, and emotionally. Joining an Aikido dojo is one of the best investments you can make for yourself or one of your loved ones. Call today and book a free sample lesson. Until next time I wish you peace, love and success. Martin Acton sensei
