Why should your child practice aikido?

Aikido is one of the most advanced martial arts the world has ever seen. It is a non-aggressive yet extremely effective self-defense. So how is that different from other martial arts? Well we focus on how to stop fights with the minimum of power. We don’t hurt others, we prevent aggressive people from hurting others and themselves. Students learn to respond when someone kicks, punches, grabs or in some other way attacks them. Not by kicking, punching and chopping, instead we use the negative energy and direct it or lead it. We show the attacker that what they are doing hurts and lead them to a state of calmness.

  • Students will gain confidence and learn to be modest. People with real power are never in your face!
  • School results will improve because through the techniques we use both sides of the brain.
  • Coordination balance and flexibility will improve. How? Because we show how to stand and move in a balanced, relaxed yet controlled state.
  • If a child falls they will be able to avoid getting hurt because we teach how to take a fall safely.

Children face their limitations in a safe and encouraging environment everyone learns why it is impossible to fail. That life is an adventure that by visualizing what we want and taking action we can attain our goals.

In a lesson first we demonstrate what a technique looks like so the student can see the big picture. Next we give clear simple direction for the student to listen to. Finally students practice the techniques and get to feel how they work. All measures are taken to make sure students are safe. They learn advanced movements in a fun, playful yet educational manor.

If a child disrupts a lesson, they will be spoken to and asked to sit calmly at the side of the mat for a few minutes. The child will express what the problem is a solution will be sought. The child will learn a better way to communicate their needs. Resulting in fewer fights at home, at school or on the street.
