Recently it came to my attention that a lot of people here in Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom are self-harming and committing suicide. I was asked if I would work with a local charity to help solve these problems. Of course, I am happy to help in any way I can. So I have been asked to put together a program to motivate and inspire these people and to help them see life from a new perspective.
In Japan I had worked with people who were also self-harming, that tried to commit suicide and that were totally depressed, pessimistic, and hopeless. This experience was priceless because the training I got showed me there is a way to help these people. This is a little of what I hope to share.
The life you lead is a choice. You can be a victim with a “poor me” mentality. Always looking for the easy path. Wanting others to take care of you. Not living, only getting by day by day. Thinking negatively, complaining and resenting everything and everyone. Taking, demanding and fighting all the time. Walking around with a chip on your shoulder thinking the world owes you. Or you can decide to make things better!
You have total control, power and ability to live an exceptional, majestic and superior life. One of momentous significance. One that can impact not only a few people around you but a life that can impact the world and history.
Where do you start? Well, I start with a vision, an image and a purpose. To become successful you have to have some idea of what it means to be successful. Who in your opinion is successful? For me, I have many role models Mohammed Ali, Bruce Lee, the Dali Lama and several others. I like certain things about the Dali Lama how he communicates and makes everyone he talks to feel like he or she is the most important person in the world.
When I have to talk to someone that I feel nervous with I put myself into a certain mindset. I sometimes ask myself how would the Dali Lama talk to this person. I imagine I am the Dali Lama and I want this person to feel very special. Suddenly I am filled with warmth, love and confidence, and that person that I am going to talk to really is the most important person in the world for me during that time.
Respect is very important. Respect yourself. Respect others. Respect things and places then you make everything better. Everyone wants respect, approval, control and to be safe. Before you can give these things to others you first have to have them yourself. You obtain these things by going within and tapping into your unlimited resources. Your True Self. Meditation and prayer are great tools to help you do this.
They say practice makes perfect. I disagree. Practice makes an improvement. You can always better your best. You can always go beyond everything you have ever done. You never hit a state of perfection. You are always bigger than what you do. All you are looking for are new breakthroughs. Through practice, practice and practice you get better, better and better. You will still have days when life knocks you to your knees. But if life does not kill you then you can always get back up onto your feet again, wipe away the blood, sweat and tears and keep moving forward. You need to feed your spirit by reading positive books, listen to motivational talks, hang around positive people that will help you feel good as you are in the process of transforming your life. Getting unstuck means you start to live life on your terms, instead of just gliding through every day on autopilot. You are aware, stimulated and excited about your unfolding future. Someone taught me in the USA that life is a gift from God and how you live it is your gift back to Him or HER. I believe this to my deepest core and every day I get up thankful for another opportunity to grow, to love and to serve God, his children and the world. I would like to share something I just read today that really inspired me. It is called “What is Life?”
Life is a challenge. Live it. Life is a gift. Accept it. Life is an adventure. Dare it.
Life is a sorrow. Overcome it. Life is a tragedy. Face it. Life is a duty. Perform it. Life is a game. Play it. Life is a mystery. Solve it. Life is a song. Sing it. Life is an opportunity. Take it. Life is a journey. Complete it. Life is a promise. Fulfill it. Life is a beauty. Praise it. Life is a struggle. Fight it. Life is a goal. Achieve it. Life is a puzzle. Solve it.
Isn’t this fantastic?
Suicide is not on option! It will not solve your problems, it will cause additional problems that you have no idea how long it will take to resolve. No matter how hard it gets there is always hope, help and another choice. Be smart, strong and keep the faith. Until next time I wish you peace love and success. Martin Acton Sensei.
